SBLHS 2 points readers to G. H. R. Horsley and John A. L. Lee’s “A Preliminary Checklist of Abbreviations of Greek Epigraphic Volumes” for a list of abbreviations to be used for Greek epigraphic resources (§6.4.3.2). Recently a blog reader alerted us to a new resource that is recommended as a replacement for Horsley and Lee’s list. The reader explains that the Association Internationale d’Épigraphie Grecque et Latine (AIEGL) has now released a list of abbreviations that “will become the standard for the guild.”
We have not yet had time to review the AIEGL’s list, so we cannot yet give it our unqualified recommendation. However, we do encourage writers seeking an authoritative list for epigraphic abbreviations to consult the list, which the AIEGL has made freely available online here (PDF).
Finally, an update on the SBLHS blog. The press of multiple large, complex, time-consuming projects has prevented us from adding new material for quite some time. We do intend to return to regular blogging as soon as we are able. Thank you for your patience in the meantime.
