Westminster John Knox Press has launched a new series, the Interpretation Bible Commentary series. Mark Allan Powell’s commentary on Matthew and Matthew L. Skinner’s on Acts have already been published, and Susan Grove Eastman’s volume on Romans is scheduled for release in August 2025.
The name of the series reflects both its relation to and distinctiveness from a similarly titled Westminster John Knox series: Interpretation: A Bible Commentary for Teaching and Preaching. That is, the new series does not replace the former one but rather extends the latter’s work in new ways within new contexts.
How should authors distinguish between the two series in citations of volumes from one or both? SBLHS already specifies the abbreviation IBC for Interpretation: A Bible Commentary for Teaching and Preaching. We recommend that citations of the new series distinguish it by using the abbreviation IBCS, for Interpretation Bible Commentary series.
